How To – Dial a prefix to get an outside
line (amending dial locations)
This article describes how to configure your modem to
dial a prefix number to get an outside line. If your modem is not directly
connected to a outside line then the AT&T dialer may need to dial
a number (e.g. 9) before dialing the AT&T Global Network number. Whilst
configuring the dial prefix we will also check that your other dial settings
are correct:
1) Run the AT&T Dialer (click Start > Programs
> AT&T Dialer)
2) Click the "Setup" button
3) Select "Review or change just modem and phone number settings",
click Next
4) Ensure the correct modem is select, click Next
5) Click the "Dial Properties" button
6) If you do not have a dial location defined, or if the dial location
is called “New Location” then click the “New”
button to create a new dial location.
7) Check the details of your dial location – on some systems you
will need to click “Edit” to view the dial location details.
Ensure that the following details are correct:
Location Name – give the dial
location a meaningful name, for example Office
Country / region – this needs
to be the country that you are calling from, or example United Kingdom
Area code – this is the area
code for your telephone number, for example 01692
Dialing rules – if you need
to dial a prefix (e.g. 9) to get an outside line then please ensure
that this is set correctly for both Local and Long Distance calls
When all the details are correct click OK (you may
need to click OK again to return to the Dialer Setup)
12) Back at the "Where are you calling from?"
screen click the first "Change" button
13) Select the first "Nationwide" number from the list and click
OK
14) Back at the "Where are you calling from?" screen click the
second "Change" button
15) Select the second "Nationwide" number from the list and
click OK
