Error 19060 - Network communications gateway configurable error, Dialer encountered an error.

This error can be caused by a number of different problems relating to the AT&T dialer establishing a dial-up connection. Please work through each of the suggested resolutions below, retrying a connection after each until the error is resolved.

IBM / AT&T Network Problems - please try again

Error 19060 can be reported if there are problems with the IBM or AT&T networks, it is therefore recommended that you wait for 30 minutes and then try again. If Kewill are aware of specific network problems then we will publish details on our known issues web page.

If scheduled tasks regularly fail, but you are able to connect at different times of the day, then it may be worth changing the time at which the task is automatically run.

Try Connecting with just the AT&T Dialer

Error 19060 is returned by Expedite, however to ascertain the actual cause of the error please run the AT&T Dialer (Start > Programs > AT&T Dialer) and press Connect. Please read the following FAQ articles which relate to the most common errors returned by the AT&T dialer:

AT&T Error 10057 – An unexpected error occured requesting...
AT&T Error 10061 – The authentication request could not...
AT&T Encryption Key Error - Unable to send encryption key...

If you receive a different error then please check our full list of FAQ articles.

Modem Not Connected or Switched Off

Please check that your modem is correctly plugged in and switched on. If you have an external modem then ensure that the modem cable is securely connected to the computer's COM or USB port. Please also check that the cable from the modem to the phone socket is correctly plugged in at both ends.

If you have two modems attached to your computer, or if you have both an internal and external modem then check which modem is being used by the AT&T dialer. If in doubt then try connecting the other modem to the phone line and try again.

 Another Connection Exists

Please ensure that you do not already have a dial-up connection connected to another party; such as your Internet Server Provider. If your modem is being used for another connection then the AT&T dialer will not be able to connect to IBM.

If your modem is being used for a different connection, please try the following steps to resolve:

1) Disconnect the existing connection (Double-click on the Dial-up Connection icon; which resembles two computers with flashing screens, this can be found near the clock in the bottom right corner of your screen. Click the Disconnect button).
2) Try linking via Konnexions.
3) If you still cannot connect then try resetting the modem by switching it off, waiting 10 seconds and then switching it on again.
4) If still unable to link then shutdown Windows, turn off your computer, wait 10 seconds and then switch it on again.

 Conflicting applications

Some other programs may take control of the dial up adapter and hence can prevent Konnexions from establishing a successful connection to the IBM network. Please check that you are not running any such applications (for example e-mail packages). We recommend that you also check your startup program group (Start > Programs > Startup) for applications that are automatically run when the computer is started.

If you have previously successfully sent and received files via IBM using Konnexions and have not changed anything else on the computer (e.g. installed new software, removed software, changed your modem, or changed any Windows settings) then it is unlikely that any of the solutions beyond this point will help resolve your problem.

 Windows NT Service Pack

If you are running Windows NT 4 (server or workstation) then please ensure that you have installed service pack 6 (or later).

 Incorrect Dial Settings

If you still encounter error 19060, please try the following steps to resolve:

1) Run the AT&T Dialer (click Start > Programs > AT&T Dialer)
2) Click the "Setup" button
3) Select "Review or change any basic settings", click Next
4) Select "Yes, I have a business account", click Next
5) Keep clicking Next until you get to the "What are the addresses of your company's name servers (DNS)?" screen.
6) Ensure that both Primary and Secondary DNS are empty, click Next
7) If prompted "A name server is usually needed..." then click No
8) Keep clicking Next until you get to the "Where are you calling from?" screen.
9) Click "Dial Properties"
10) If you do not have a dial location defined, or if the dial location is called “New Location” then click the “New” button to create a new dial location.
11) Check the details of your dial location – on some systems you will need to click “Edit” to view the dial location details. Ensure that the following details are correct:

Location Name – give the dial location a meaningful name, for example Office

Country / region – this needs to be the country that you are calling from, or example United Kingdom

Area code – this is the area code for your telephone number, for example 01692

Dialing rules – if you need to dial a prefix (e.g. 9) to get an outside line then please ensure that this is set correctly for both Local and Long Distance calls

When all the details are correct click OK (you may need to click OK again to return to the Dialer Setup)

12) Back at the "Where are you calling from?" screen click the first "Change" button
13) Select the first "Nationwide" number from the list and click OK
14) Back at the "Where are you calling from?" screen click the second "Change" button
15) Select the second "Nationwide" number from the list and click OK
16) Click Finish
17) Try linking via Konnexions

 Establish an Internet Connection

One of the main causes of error 19060 is an inability to create a successful Internet connection. It is therefore recommended that you ensure you can connect to the Internet from the computer running Konnexions. If you can already connect to the Internet from your computer then please skip to the next solution below.

The easiest way of establishing an Internet connection is to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet. Please follow the instructions below:

1) Double-click the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.
2) The Internet Connection Wizard should appear - follow the instructions on screen to set-up an Internet Connection.
3) Once an Internet Connection has been established, run Windows Update (from Internet Explorer select Tools > Windows Update)
4) Restart the computer.
5) Try linking again from Konnexions

 Upgrade Internet Explorer

If you are not running the latest version of Internet Explorer, we recommend that you upgrade. Click on the link below to download Internet Explorer 6 from the Microsoft web site:

Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1

Try linking from Konnexions again once the upgrade to Internet Explorer has been applied.

 Modem Driver

Please ensure that you have the correct modem driver for your modem. For example, if you have a US Robotics Sportster modem, but you are using the Standard Windows modem driver: go to the US Robotics web site, download and install the latest driver for your modem. After installing the driver run the AT&T Dialer, press Setup, select Review or change just modem and phone number settings, click Next, ensure that the new modem driver is selected, click Next and then click Finish.

 Modem Speed

If you still encounter problems then try reducing the speed of your modem (click here for information on how to do this).

 Dial-Up Adapter Problems

If you still encounter error 19060 please follow the instructions below relevant for your operating system:

Windows 95 and Windows 98 First Edition

Please refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 1881141:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;188141

Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows ME

Please follow the instructions below to check if the dial up adapter is installed:

1) Open the Add and Remove Programs dialog (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs)
2) Select Windows Setup (the second tab)
3) Check if communications is checked:
- If not, then select Communications and click Details. Ensure that "Dial-Up Networking" (sometimes called "Remote Network") is checked, click OK and Restart your computer.
- If it is checked then remove it, restart your computer and repeat steps 1 to 3 above.
4) Try linking via Konnexions.

Windows NT

Please follow the instructions below to check if TCP/IP is enabled for dial up networking (Note: Administrator rights are required to perform this operation):

1) Open control panel
2) Open network
3) Click services
4) Select Remote Access Service then click properties
5) Select modem (if more than one), click network
6) Make sure that TCP IP is selected as dial out protocol

 Re-install Konnexions

If none of the above resolve the error, we recommend uninstalling Konnexions and installing it again. This is particularly relevant if you have installed or upgraded dial-up networking or made changes to the dial-up adapter settings since installing Konnexions. Please follow the instructions below to re-install Konnexions:

1) Uninstall the Konnexions common components as follows:

a) From Control Panel, select Add/Remove programs (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs)
b) Click on the entry for Konnexions v 1.00
c) Click the Add/Remove button (Windows 2000 and XP: Click the Change/Remove button)
d) When prompted, select Yes to remove the program.

2) If you have Konnexions v1c installed (the upgrade for Extract Connect) then click here for instructions on uninstalling.

3) If you have Konnexions v1s installed (the upgrade for Scheduler Pro) then click here for instructions on uninstalling.

4) Restart the computer (Start > Shut Down > Restart).

5) Follow the instructions provided in the Konnexions V1.0 Installation Guide that came with the Konnexions CD to install Konnexions again.
